Developed by mBlox, a mobile transaction network, along with Raileasy and Concept Data Technologies, a rail ticketing mobile app has been launched in the UK.
According to a release, the application, which is available for Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile as well as older devices, can be used to review timetables and buy tickets via registered credit cards.
The application is free to download from the Raileasy website, and allows tickets to be bought via a registered credit card. To ensure consumers only pay the price of the ticket and do not incur any data download charges to their mobiles, Raileasy is absorbing the data costs for its travelers by using mBlox's Sender-Pays Data service, eliminating the data charges that vary depending on each consumer's data plan.
The Raileasy app does not rely on a mobile web browser to access the Internet, speeding up the purchasing process significantly and cutting costs for the end-user. mBlox's Sender-Pays Data service ensures that the app works independently of potentially expensive mobile download charges, avoiding any data costs associated with the service on most UK networks.
Raileasy Managing Director, George Sikking, said: "We are already seeing 16 percent of all rail users purchasing via online and mobile channels, and this is a trend we expect to see increase further throughout 2011, particularly as end-users become more confident regarding the security of m-commerce. The Raileasy app was designed with the user in mind. The result is an easy to use and secure app with comprehensive functionality that lets traveller buy tickets wherever they have a mobile signal."
Andrew Dark, CEO of mBlox, said: "Consumers are becoming more accustomed to the idea of purchasing goods and services using their mobile device. The Sender-Pays Data service means that they can enjoy the convenience of mobile commerce without additional data charges, in this case ensuring they only pay for the ticket being purchased without any extra costs."
